Giant Buddha in Leshan, chiseled out on
the cliff of Lingyun Mountain, is located at the root of Qiluan Peak where Minjiang,
Qingyijiang and Daduhe rivers converge to the east of Leshan city, Szehuan province.
It is stone carving statue of Buddha made in Tang Dynasty.
The 71 m tall statue of Laughing Buddha is in a sitting posture. Its head is 14.7
m tall and 10 m wide; its shoulders are 24m wide; its ears are 6.7 m long; its eyes
are 3.3 m long; the neck is 3 m tall; and its foot instep is 9 m wide. It is the
biggest stone carving statue in the world. Hence goes the saying that "the entire
cliff is a giant Buddha and the Buddha dominates the cliff".
